Burl Lowe Swaffar

Burl Lowe Swaffar departed this life March 27, 2012, at the age of 89. He was born near Butterfield, Missouri, the son of James and Bess Lowe Swaffar January 29, 1923. He served his country three years, part of the time in combat in Germany and France. President Truman dropped the bomb and saved his unit from being one of the first to attack the shores of Japan. He then served several months in the Philippines. Returning home, he learned the trade of locksmith and worked about 14 years for Kenton Brothers before going to Western Electric in Lee's Summit, Missouri for 27 years as their locksmith before retiring. In 1945, he married Dorothy Achord. Their home was blessed with three children. Jeffrey Swaffar of the home. Jean Ingram and husband Michael of Lee's Summit, Missouri, JoAnne Temming and husband David of Dallas, Texas. Two wonderful grandchildren Zachary and McKenzie Ingram joined the family. Burl was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cletus Zumalt, and brother Robert Swaffar. Burl was a member of Little Blue Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. Services will at Omer Cemetery near Stockton, Missouri with Pastor Andrew Roshto officiating. Burl is sadly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in honor of Burl Swaffar to Little Blue Baptist Church, 7119 South Noland Road, Kansas City, Missouri, 64133.
